Parent volunteers praised
A letter to the editor of May 24 praised the "Olympic Day" held by Emily Brittain Elementary School at Butler Memorial Park.
The letter thanked the Emily Brittain teachers, staff and volunteers.
While the school does have excellent teachers and staff, "Olympic Day" is funded, planned and executed by the Emily Brittain Parent-Teacher Organization and its parent volunteers.
I do not think people realize how much PTOs actually do for their schools. Most of the student activities are funded and/or run by the PTOs.
Without the support of parents and teachers, these PTOs would not be able to achieve their remarkable goals.
The exceptional staff and teachers we have definitely make our (Emily Brittain) school a great school. It also is the support of the parents by attending PTO meetings, helping in classrooms and just working with children at home with homework or reading that makes a school the best it can be.
Any school could pull off an exceptional day for its children, as Emily Brittain has done for years with our "Olympic Day," if they had the excellent parent participation demonstrated at Emily Brittain.
Therefore, the true thanks for Emily Brittain's "Olympic Day" first goes out to the many, many parent volunteers who put in months of preparation to put this fun event together for our children, also to our PTO for the backing and funding for this activity, and to our teachers and staff for their support.
