Gaylord J. McConnell
Gaylord James "Jake" McConnell, 88, of Slippery Rock Road in Slippery Rock Township died at 4:12 p.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospice.
Born May 19, 1920, in Slippery Rock Township, he was the son of Jacob Warren McConnell and Eleanor Christina Buchanan.
He was self-employed as the owner/operator of McConnell Trucking and retired in 1982. He also was a self-employed excavator.
Mr. McConnell was a member of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Slippery Rock VFW and Harrisville American Legion posts.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Joyce A. and Ralph Henry of Portersville; two sons, Donald R. McConnell and his wife, Judy, and Russell J. McConnell and his wife, Yvonne, all of Slippery Rock; five grandchildren, Ralph E. Henry and his wife, Stephanie, of Greenville, Christopher Henry and his wife, Michelle, of Harmony, Jennifer Rose and her husband Jay, of Carnegie, Bridget Kniess and her husband Joshua, and Curtis McConnell, all of Slippery Rock; five great-grandchildren, Lane, Cheyenne and RJ Henry of Harmony and Sarah and Nathan Henry of Andover, Ohio; and two step-great-grandchildren, Travis and Kayla Adams of Greenville.
His wife, Clara Etta Hamilton McConnell, who he married April 15, 1946, died Nov. 9, 2001. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Amy Thompson and Pearl Hogg; and two brothers, Earl and Donald Samuel McConnell.
<B>MCCONNELL </B>— Friends of Gaylord James "Jake" McConnell, who died Saturday, May 31, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of the West Liberty United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery, where a military service will be observed.
