[naviga:h3]BRR schedules final scholarships[/naviga:h3]

Butler Road Race, Inc., will present 38 Butler County high school cross country runners with its annual “Scholarships For Kids” academic award.

This marks the final year for the award.

Eligibility requirements of a 3.0 grade point average or higher, cross country running participation and coach’s nomination must be met for consideration. A $585 scholarship will be presented to each recipient during the high school’s annual senior awards assembly.

The 25-year history of the program has resulted in 818 scholarships totaling $432,240.

[naviga:h3]Pioneers’ season ends with loss[/naviga:h3]

The Butler County Community College softball team saw its season end in a 4-3 loss to Suffolk at the NJCAA Division III District H Tournament at Anne Arundel Community College over the weekend.

Suffolk won on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lydia Roth drove in Bailey Campbell in the second inning to open the scoring.

Suffolk responded with two runs in the fifth off Jessi Reed to take the lead, but the Pioneers moved ahead again 3-2 on a two-run single by Alexis Vogan.

Suffolk tied the game 3-3 in the fifth and then won it in the seventh.

Reed struck out six and didn’t walk a batter in the tough loss.

BC3 will graduate four players: Vogan, Roth, Reed and Nikki Houk.

[naviga:h3]Dodgers’ Kershaw placed on DL[/naviga:h3]

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was put on the 10-day disabled list with left biceps tendinitis.

The 30-year-old left-hander is 1-4 with a 2.68 ERA this season with 48 strikeouts and 10 walks in 44 innings. He allowed two runs and six hits over six innings on Tuesday against Arizona.

A three-time NL Cy Young Award winner, Kershaw is on the disabled list for the fourth time.

Kershaw is earning $30.4 million this year.
