Nurse in narcotic pill scheme pleads guilty

She, another nurse got them illegally

KITTANNING — A nurse from Petrolia on Monday pleaded guilty to illegally buying prescription narcotics for personal use.

According to court records, 47-year-old Stacy Ann Miller entered a plea bargain arrangement with the Lawrence County District Attorney's Office just as jurors were set to be picked for trial Monday.

Court records say Miller, who appeared before Lawrence County President Judge Kenneth Valasek, pleaded guilty to felony charges of acquisition by misrepresentation and possession with intent to deliver.

The terms of Miller's sentencing recommendation, as well as her sentencing date, were not immediately available.

According to court records, Miller last year used her own credit card to illegally purchase thousands of narcotic tablets. At that time, she worked at the office of a family practitioner in East Franklin.

She reportedly wanted the drugs for a bad back, a sprained ankle and a relative.

Miller's co-worker-turned-co-defendant Michelle Bonner, 47, of Kittanning reportedly obtained the doctor's DEA credentials to make the purchases.

Already in June, Bonner was sentenced to 18 months probation, fines and community service for her involvement.

Another nurse, Lisa Marie Drum, 39, of Dayton allegedly paid the other two women cash for drugs. Drum in March was accepted into a rehabilitation program for first time criminal offenders.

Court records say all of the woman already handed over unused drugs.
