Several nabbed for drinking

Alcohol abuse leads to arrests

An inebriated bicyclist was hurt when he crashed landed face down in a West Cunningham Street parking lot, Butler police said.

Another man suspected of having one too many suffered accidental self-inflicted injures when he slugged a utility pole or two.

The incidents several hours apart were two of several cases of suspected public intoxication Saturday in the city.

The calls started at 12:48 a.m. when police were notified of a vehicle crash on West Quarry Street.

Officers got there and found a suspected drunk Jesse L. Vickers, 44, of Butler trying to change the tire of a car that had hit a utility pole.

Vickers told police he knew nothing about the accident. He was arrested for public drunkenness and taken to the city lockup.

Officers discovered 46-year-old Norman M. Baker of Butler laying on his stomach with a large amount of blood coming from his face, a police report said.Baker acknowledged, police said, that he had been drinking at a bar before wrecking his bike.A passing motorist told police that he saw Baker riding the bike across the parking lot and hit a curb, flipping the bike end over end three times.Baker's injuries were bad enough that he had to be taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. He was cited for public drunkenness.At 8:07 p.m., police got a call for a suspected intoxicated person at Father Marinaro Park. Officers arrived at the park and found Alyssa J. Jamison, 23, of Harrisville in the bed of a pickup truck.She, too was, arrested for public drunkenness.Meanwhile, a caller just after 10:30 p.m., reported a man on West Brady Street yelling profanitiesPolice located the suspect, 30-year-old David A. Pistorius of West Deer, Allegheny County, who smelled of a "strong odor" of alcohol, a police report said.Officers also noticed the man's knuckles were bleeding.Pistorius explained he was "upset and had punched several telephone poles," the report said.Like the others, he was cited for public drunkenness
