Pennsylvania marks Work Zone Awareness Week

Officials are reminding motorists to pay extra attention to road crew workers in the state this week. April 21 through 25 has been designated as National Work Zone Awareness Week, held each year at the start of road construction season to promote road safety in work zones.

According to the state Department of Transportation, there were 1,250 crashes in work zones in 2024, leading to 22 deaths.

“While construction may cause a temporary inconvenience for drivers, these improvements bring long-term benefits for all who use our roadway,” said Pennsylvania Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. “Until then, we need drivers to take responsibility for work zone safety and understand the critical role they play protecting both highway workers and drivers.”
