No more pension tax
I read in the Butler Eagle that the Butler School Board wants to raise the property tax by two mills. Why should we have to pay higher taxes for people’s pension plans?
Many of us do not even have pension plans and are still working to pay not only our own bills, but school and property tax bills, since we own our homes.
For people on fixed incomes who live only on Social Security, that additional tax is a lot of money.
I love the comment school board member Helene Abramowitz made about people spending $85 a week on beer and cigarettes. How does she know? Is she or some of her friends among those she is talking about?
I don’t smoke or drink, so don’t lump me with those people.
One of my coworkers said she probably spends that much a week, but asks why she should have to pay school taxes when she has no kids going to school. I agree with her. If you have no children going to school you should not pay school tax.
I also believe if you are 70 years old or older, you should not pay school or any other property tax. You’ve paid your dues.
