Charges filed in delivery robbery

Police accuse Grove City man

PINE TWP, Mercer County — A Grove City man was arraigned Wednesday on charges he robbed a pizza delivery man at gunpoint in a church parking lot here last weekend.

Brandon O. Bowers, 23, is in the Mercer County Jail on $75,000 bail on charges of robbery, theft, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Police suspect Bowers on Dec. 18 placed a pizza order at Pizza Joe’s in Grove City for delivery to the Center Presbyterian Church on Center Church Road.

The delivery man, 19-year-old Alex Barnes of Mercer, about 2 p.m. drove two miles to the church But when he got out of the car, police said, the suspect confronted Barnes with a handgun.

The robber demanded all of the victim’s money and ran away. Police said Bowers allegedly made off with $350. No one was hurt.

Police Tuesday arrested Bowers, who in October 2007 was sentenced to five years probation in connection with a nearly $17,000 theft in Pine Township, according to Mercer County Court records.

A preliminary hearing in the robbery case is set for Jan. 5 at the office of District Judge Neil McEwen in Pine Township.
