SV volleyball moves on, 3-0
Seeded No. 2 in the WPIAL Class 3A boys volleyball tournament, Seneca Valley was expected to take care of business in the tourney's opening round Tuesday night.
It did.
The Raiders (13-2) cruised to a 25-11, 25-17, 25-19 win over 15th-seeded Armstrong in SV's William Paul Gymnasium.
“We played really well tonight,” Seneca Valley coach Brett Poirier said. “Our ball control in the third game was impressive.”
Evan Holly had 31 assists for Seneca Valley, Coleman McDonough added 11 digs.
“Our kill percentage was solid,” Poirer said. “We have to do a better job blocking than we did tonight, but overall, this was a strong effort.”
Michael Devlin had 13 kills in 20 attempts, Nate DeGraaf seven kills in 11 attempts, James McCarthy six kills in as many tries.
The Raiders play Fox Chapel Thursday at Penn- Trafford in the next round.
In Class 2A action, North Catholic swept Keystone Oaks. The Trojans will face Montour, a 3-1 winner over Mars, in a quarterfinal Thursday. No other details were available on either game.
Garrah Milochik and Zoe King homered as Karns City bounced back from a rare defeat by posting a 9-4 win at Keystone.The Gremlins have won 15 of their past 16 games.King also doubled and singled, driving in two runs. Dawson Wallace had a double, two singles and three RBI Tuesday as Moniteau outlasted Clarion, 17-11.Mason Mershimer and Branson Carson had two hits each as the Warriors unleashed a 12-hit attack.
