County bowlers find perfection

To say that Tom Fry was hot during Butler County Men's Traveling League play last week would be a huge understatement.

Only 10 sanctioned bowlers have rolled three consecutive 300 games in USBC history. The only bowler from Pennsylvania to achieve the feat was Jeff Campbell of New Castle in 2004, who rolled three perfect games in a row during a pre-bowl for a league.

Tom Fry rolled a pretty impressive 1,079 four-game set last week. What is the USBC record for pin-fall total for a four-game series? Answer at the end of the column.

If you run into a lane condition in which the ball skids nicely in the front part of the lane, begins hooking in the middle part of the lane and then seems to lose it's energy when it hits the pins, you will need to make a change. If you can, use a ball with a shinier surface. This will allow your ball to get into the skid, roll, and hook sequence, which is the desired ball reaction. Bowlers often concern themselves with the front part or heads of a lane and the back part of the lanes, but forget about the middle part. The next time you are struggling a bit with pin carry, pay attention to what the ball is doing in the middle part of the lane. If it's hooking, make a change.

Loschetter beat Parker Bohn III 239-226.Diandra Asbaty defeated Carolyn Dorin-Ballard 236-225 to win the final PBA Women's Series match of the season.
