George Robert Rutherford, 81, of Cranberry Township died Saturday afternoon in his home.

Born Dec. 10, 1926, in Huntington, he was the son of George Brown and Mary Mathilda Schultz Rutherford.

He was retired from the maintenance department of U.S. Steel in Ambridge.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Surviving are four daughters, Mary Rutherford of Orlando, Fla., Debbie Sylvester of Cranberry Township, Beverly Enders (Bill) of Mars and Dayna Ferguson of Ellwood City; and two sons, Dean Rutherford of Cranberry Township and John Rutherford (Shayne) of Mooresville, N.C. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Beverly Rutherford, whom he married on June 27, 1947, and who died Aug. 5, 2002.
