Ken Metrick honored by 4-H

Kitty Egat, Indiana County's 4-H volunteer and symposium chairwoman, presents Ken Metrick with the Outstanding 4-H Leader Award for Butler County.
His leadership is recognized

Is there a volunteer in your life? Volunteers play an important role in many organizations and touch our lives on a daily basis.

The countless hours of service provided by volunteer leaders on behalf of Penn State's 4-H youth program are invaluable to the success of the Butler County youth program effort. In recognition of this leadership, an outstanding volunteer from Butler County is named each year at the Southwestern PA Leaders' Symposium.

Ken Metrick of Butler was recognized as Butler County's Outstanding 4-H Leader for 2007. Nominated by his fellow leaders, Ken has served as a project leader for six years for the Butler County Junior Agriculturalists, helping members with market livestock and gardening projects. In addition to his work at the club level, Ken also serves as vice president of the Butler County 4-H development committee.

In addition to being an active 4-H leader, Ken serves as secretary on the Butler Farm Show board of directors. He is a self-taught musician, vocalist, and recording artist and performs numerous gospel and country music concerts throughout the year.

Ken and his wife, Cathy, own a farm where they raise fruit, vegetables, flowers and poultry and also operate a farm market. They have two daughters, Amy Jo and Laura Beth, who are very active in 4-H.

Butler County Cooperative Extension is proud to have dedicated 4-H volunteers such as Ken participating in youth development programs.

Extension Educator Ellen Linamen and 4-H volunteers Barb Rader of Connoquenessing and Karen Protzman of Butler served as members of the symposium planning committee.

To all of our Butler County 4-H volunteers, a heartfelt thank you for all of your efforts in conducting and supporting activities for our youth!
