Julia 'Marie' Potter

Julia "Marie" Potter, 85, of Butler died Thursday at the Sugar Creek Rest, Armstrong County.

Born Feb. 8, 1922, in Butler, she was the daughter of Albert and Kathryn Hairston Wynn.

She was a wife, mother and homemaker and actively supported her husband in his civic and humanitarian activities in the Butler community.

For most of her life, she was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and served for a while as church secretary. She also worked for the Butler School District as a cafeteria worker for 12 years.

Mrs. Potter belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary 894 of which she was president and the American Legion Auxiliary 117, where she served as adjutant, sergeant of arms, historian, secretary, first vice president and president. She was secretary of the scout troop at the North Street Christian Church and secretary for the Dunbar Community Center. She also was a member of the Cancer Society, the March of Dimes, the Butler County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Butler County Human Relations Association. She was on the board of the County Council of the American Legion Auxiliaries.

She loved to cook and bake and spent many hours experimenting with recipes. She also took great pride in her house and continued to decorate and make changes after she lost her eyesight.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Fullen of Lanham, Md., and Eleanor Potter-Cox of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Albert W. Potter of Butler and George C. Potter of Beaver Falls; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband, George Potter, whom she married March 26, 1941, died March 13, 2001. She also was preceded in death by a grandson.

<B>POTTER </B>— Friends of Julia "Marie" Potter, who died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., where services will follow at noon. Burial will be at the Butler County Memorial Park Butler Township.Information also is available at www.youngfuneralhomes.com.
