Group set to release CD
Recording a CD with Grammy-winning producers is the glorious part of living the life of a Pittsburgh musician. Planning how to launch the CD, as well as the band, in the local music scene is the hard part.
Just ask Butler High School teacher Martin Rubeo, who sings and plays the guitar for the band, Gramsci Melodic.
The group, which formed in 2007, is a pop-art rock band and the winner of "The Joker Productions Rock Off" in 2008. They have slated the release of their new CD, self-titled "Gramsci Melodic," for Saturday.
"Our demo CD surpassed 2,000 pressings when we formed in 2007 without the backing of a record label, so I'm looking for good things to come this time around," said Rubeo.
With the help of Grammy Award-winning producers at Audible Images, Rubeo is ready for all that is to come to him and the other members of his band. If nothing else, they know they will have the support of the band's followers, who enjoy the synthpop and alternative rock blends that mark the unique sounds of the group's songs.
Gramsci Melodic has been making the rounds on the concert circuit. The band performed at the recent Fallen Heroes Benefit Concert in Station Square and at the Pittsburgh Arts Festival.
Rubeo has been a teacher at Butler High for seven years. He teaches 11th grade history. He advises the National Honor Society and also started an annual high school Battle of the Bands that benefits Butler Memorial Hospital's Caring Angels Fund.
