Alice Anthony
Alice Beatty Anthony, 91, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, formerly of Hoon Road in Oakland Township, died at 6:32 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 28, 1914, in Oakland Township, she was the daughter of William John Sr. and Nellie Hollman Beatty.
She was a graduate of Slippery Rock University and retired in 1979 as a first grade teacher at Oakland Township School in the Butler School District after 31 years. She also had taught in two one-room schools in Oakland Township for six years.
Mrs. Anthony was a member of the Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder emeritus, a deacon and a member of the Bethel Bible Class and the Presbyterian Women's Association for years. She also was a member of the Women's Club of Butler, the W.C.T.U. and the state and local chapters of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. James (Janet) Dimitt of Kings Mills, Ohio, Mrs. John (Mary) Gabriele of Fairport, N.Y., and Mrs. Emanuel (Lois) Valasek of Noblesville, Ind.; and four grandchildren, James M. Dimitt, Jill Dimitt Fealko, Scott Thompson and Melissa Gabriele.
Abrother, William J. Beatty Jr. of Chicora; a son-in-law, Andrew Thompson of Butler; a sister-in-law, Mary Gould of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Her husband, John Anthony, whom she married June 19, 1942, died July 7, 1984. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Thompson of Butler, and two brothers, George and Walter Beatty.
<B>ANTHONY </B>— Friends of Alice Beatty Anthony, who died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Visitation also will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where services will follow at 1 p.m with the Rev. Merry Hope Meloy, her church pastor, officiating.
