Birds main feature in Nature Art Showcase and Sale Feb. 7 and 8

Guests will discover quite a few original artwork items featuring birds found in Western Pennsylvania at the ninth annual Nature Art Showcase and Sale, taking place Feb. 7 and 8 at Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin.

The free-admission indoor art exhibit is coordinated by the Council on Greenways and Trails in conjunction with the Penn Soil Resource Conservation & Development Council. The showcase will be conducted during the “Franklin On Ice” event inside the Barrow-Civic Theatre, 1223 Liberty St.

The 76 registered artists each provided up to two pieces of varying media techniques. Avian species are depicted in paintings, stained-glass projects and photographs and include cardinals, owls, ducks, great blue herons, Canada geese, ring-necked pheasant, Baltimore oriole, osprey and hummingbirds.

The public is invited to attend a “Meet the Artists Reception” on Feb. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday exhibit hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The majority of the 140 art items are available for purchase during the showcase. Event details are posted at www.nwpagreenways.org.

Guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite art items, with the top vote-getting artwork to be recognized in the categories of 2D, 3D and pollinators. Prizes for the “People’s Choice Awards” winners have been donated by Victorian City Art & Frame, Moonrise Porcelain & Stoneware and artist Mary Rose Ragon.
