Another tough Friday in store for the Tornado
I promise I won't launch myself at your head for a helmet-to-helmet hit.
Still, I'm 65-15 this season. Yes, 65-15. I'm awesome. I don't need to hit you over the head with that fact after another solid 9-2 week, so, we'll just get right to the picks:
•
Erie McDowell 40, Butler 6 — Those poor Golden Tornado. They can't catch a break this season. Not only is Butler winless, but now the injuries are piling up.Not good when facing McDowell, which is coming off an upset win over North Hills.Another long Friday night is in order for Butler.•
North Hills 35, Seneca Valley 27 — Speaking of North Hills, the Indians face a potent Seneca Valley team this week. The Raiders sure can score points. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Brown is getting better with each snap. He already is second in Butler County in passing yards and he has barely played half a season. But the defense continues to hold SV back, and it will again Friday.•
Knoch 36, Highlands 10 — The Knights' running game is scary. No, really, it is scary good. The Knoch offensive line is one of the best this mascot has seen in his many years of watching football between pretending to swallow the heads of little kids.I see the Knights continuing to roll this week.•
Mars 38, Valley 7 — The Planets and Knights are on a collision course for one of the biggest showdowns in the history of both schools next week.Like Knoch, this week Mars will take care of business.•
Freeport 44, West Shamokin 7 — The Yellowjackets were stung themselves last week in a disappointing loss to Deer Lakes. That has put Freeport in must-win mode. Lucky for the 'Jackets, West Shamokin is a pretty good team to face when you need a must win.•
Karns City 35, Clarion-Limestone 7 — The once-mighty Lions have lost their bite.Once a power in District 9, Clarion-Limestone has struggled to win two games the last four-plus seasons.Struggling to win games is rare for the Gremlins. They won't struggle to win this one.•
Moniteau 36, Keystone 14 — The Warriors need a win badly.•
St. Marys 32, Union 16 — The Golden Knights have played well lately, but St. Marys is simply too talented to keep up with for four quarters.•
Grove City 48, Slippery Rock 13 — It's a rivalry game, so I guess anything can happen. But the Rockets have surrendered 1,700 more yards on defense this season than Grove City.•
Hancock (Md.) 21, A-C Valley 13 — The Falcons have a chance to end their 46-game losing streak.•
Summit Academy 20, Shady Side Academy 19 — In my (mild) upset pick, the Knights get back in the playoff picture.Scoop has suffered zero concussions while writing this column.
