Butler County 4-H'ers excel at Junior Dairy Show

Fifteen Butler County 4-H members participated in the 2013 Pa. Junior Dairy Show recently at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. FFA and 4-H members from across Pennsylvania competed in six dairy breed divisions at the 58th annual show.

In the Brown Swiss division, David Schultheis of Karns City was awarded second place and Master Showman for his Summer Yearling.

Jacob Kennedy of Valencia placed second and also received a Master Showman award with his Winter Yearling.

Earning a second place and a Master Showman award in the Spring Calf class was Madalyn Fry of Butler.

In the Spring Yearling class, Taylor Kennedy of Valencia was recognized as a Master Showman with her third place entry.

Richard Fisher of Portersville exhibited the third place entry in the Dry Cow 2 Years and Over class. Richard was also the recipient of a Master Showman award.

Josh Fry of Butler participated in the Brown Swiss division with a Fall Calf entry.

Trisha Covert of Chicora earned awards for Master Showman and Best Animal Owned with her second place Senior 2-Year-Old entry in the Guernsey Division.

Trisha’s entry in the 4-Year-Old class finished second and her Spring Calf entry was awarded third place.

Cole Miller of Chicora placed fifth in the Summer Yearling class and was named a Master Showman.

Marc Galante of Butler placed seventh with his entry in the Winter Calf class.

Larissa Lesney of Butler placed third and earned a Master Showman award with her Junior 2-Year-Old entry in the Holstein division.

Lane Kummer of Evans City participated in the Red and White division, receiving third place with her Senior 2-Year-Old entry.

Jersey division exhibitors included Jake Booher of New Castle with his second place entry in the 6 Years and Older class. Jake also earned a Master Showman award.

In the Fall Calf class, Nolan Kummer of Evans City placed seventh and Brooklyn Peters of Connoquenessing placed eighth.

Robin Peters of Connoquenessing participated in the Ayrshire division, receiving first place and Junior Champion awards for her Fall Yearling.

Robin also had a first place entry in the Spring Yearling class and a fifth place, Master Showman entry in the Spring Calf class.

Brooklyn Peters placed third in the Spring Calf class.

The Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show represents the highest level of competition in the Pennsylvania 4-H dairy program.

Exhibitors at the state level qualify for competition at district level shows held during the summer months.

At the district level, entries are judged on individual merit with all blue merit animals qualifying for state competition.
