Scoop looks to bounce back from tough week

I didn't exactly take one on the chin last week, mainly because I don't have a chin, but also because 7-3 isn't a horrible record.

But it's not the type of effort I aspire to have.

We're in the stretch run of the regular season for high school football and I want to be in a good position entering the playoffs.

With that in mind, let's do this.

Union/A-C Valley at Cameron County — A second straight Thursday night game for the Falcon Knights, who needed a thrilling comeback to win at Keystone last week.

There will be much less drama this time.

Score: Union/A-C Valley 43-12

Butler at Cathedral Prep — Speed was a thorn in the Golden Tornado's side in last week's loss to Westinghouse.

Cathedral Prep has a lot of it and that will be the difference in a very close game.

Score: Cathedral Prep 30-26

Seneca Valley at Baldwin — The previously winless Highlanders have won two straight games against weak competition.

The Raiders are by no means weak.

Score: Seneca Valley 33-10

Knoch at Plum — The Mustangs' balance on offense will be the deciding factor.

Score: Plum 23-15

Mars at Greensburg Salem — Quarterback Hayden Teska will be a focal point of Mars' defense, but he's been tough to contain all season.

Score: Greensburg Salem 31-17

Freeport at Burrell — The Yellowjackets will often be set up with a short field thanks to their stout defense.

Score: Freeport 37-7

Deer Lakes at North Catholic — The Lancers are 3-1 in conference play and the Trojans 3-0. This one may seem to be a close one, but it won't be.

Score: North Catholic 48-8

Karns City at Ridgway — The Elkers have stumbled of late, losing two of their last three. Against KC, the slide will continue.

Score: Karns City 27-21

Saint Marys at Moniteau — Christian Coudriet is the real deal at quarterback for the Dutch and he has multiple weapons at his disposal.

Score: Saint Marys 32-14

Sharon at Slippery Rock — The Rockets lost in the final seconds to Hickory last Friday. This week, they'll be on the right side of a nail-biter.

Score: Slippery Rock 23-21

Summit Academy at Ligonier Valley — Just two weeks ago, Ligonier Valley was riding high at 5-0. Two straight losses have followed, but they find the winning formula at home.

Score: Ligonier Valley 25-12

Like Scoop, the high school football season is just flying by.
