Take action!

I was born and raised in Butler and planned on having my own children grow up there. I had a very happy childhood in the Institute Hill area and can remember all the holidays, the beautiful Christmas decorations, the kids getting dressed and going out for trick or treat.... those days bring back many fond memories. I'd love for my children to have the same cherished moments that I experienced growing up in a small rural community such as Butler. Upon my husbands seperation from the USMC we are moving home next month and have already purchased a home in the area. Sadly, I am very disapointed in learning of the huge heroin problem and growing crime in Butler. It's sad that such a beautiful town has become yet another victim of economic tragedy. The local goverment and community leaders should have seen this coming many years ago when the economy was dying and little was being done to save the center of our town. When you have so many businesses closing and so little opportunities for youth and young adults, it's hard for them to find ways to entertain themselves. This is just a piece of the problem. You also have illegals moving into the area as well as crime from surrounding larger cities polluting our town with drugs and other illegal activities. When are the community leaders going to recognize that without proper agenda's there won't be a need for their services anymore. We need leaders and volunteers within the town itself and I'm wondering if they have even addressed that issue. The more people you get involved in preventing crime, the better educated your town folk are about the problems and it is easier to take action and resolve the problems that exist. I urge all town members to attend public meetings and I also urge the leaders of Butler County to hold more crisis prevention meetings in the future. We need to address these issues before they land on our laps.
