Man charged with fleeing arrest on motorcycle
A Slippery Rock Township man was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 17 in connection with a high-speed chase that occurred in September.
Nathaniel Austin Pendergraft, 26, was arrested by Adams Township police after attempting to flee from police on a motorcycle. At the time of the incident, he had two warrants out for his arrest, according to a police affidavit which did not have details of the warrants.
Police responded on Sept. 20 to a report from Middlesex Township police of two motorcycles fleeing west on Route 228 at high speeds. The arresting officer responded to Route 228 near Three Degree Road in an unmarked patrol vehicle. He was informed by Adams Township police officers that they could hear the motorcycles near the Mars Area Middle School football stadium.
The motorcycles passed multiple vehicles at rapid speeds in front of Mars Area High School, including passing on the shoulder of the road and between the two designated lanes of traffic, according to the affidavit. The officer had his siren on and was able to pursue the motorcycles to the intersection of Route 228 and Pittsburgh Street, at which point the second motorcyclist pulled over onto the right shoulder.
Another police officer on Pittsburgh Street began chasing the first motorcycle. The affidavit said the first ride knew a police vehicle with an emergency siren on was behind him.
The first rider drove down Pittsburgh Street, turned into a CVS parking lot, drove through the lot, and pulled back out onto Route 228 westbound. After pursuing the motorcycle at a high rate of speed, the officer eventually stopped, due to public safety.
The arresting officer was able to track down Pendergraft’s credit card information after contacting security at Sheetz, where he bought gas for the motorcycle. The credit card was issued by Citizens Bank, which identified the account holder as Pendergraft.
In addition to discovering arrest warrants, police found the vehicle’s registration had expired and did not match the motorcycle Pendergraft was driving,
The affidavit did not mention any further information on the second motorcyclist.
