Joseph T. Hartman Jr., 88, of Butler died Thursday evening at UPMCPassavant in McCandless Township.

Born in Penn Township on June 27, 1919, he was the son of Joseph T. Sr. and Matilda S. Hohage Hartman.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator working out of Operator Union 66, Monroeville.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, obtaining the rank of sergeant.

He was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints and the IOOF Lodge 278, Connoquenessing.

He is survived by a son, Joseph L. Hartman Sr. of Butler; a daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Patty) Ferguson of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, James Hartman of Butler; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Miller of Grove City and Mrs. Wilda Grabe of Butler; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen N. Critchlow Hartman, on April 27, 1999.

VOLZ FUNERALHOME</B>, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 365 Sawmill Run Road, Butler, with Bishop Kevin Popa officiating. Burial will follow in North Union Cemetery, Renfrew.
