Roof repair bids sought
BUFFALO TWP — The roof of the Freeport High School is getting an estimated $1 million fix.
The school board Wednesday authorized seeking bids to replace much of the roof.
School board president Dan Lucovich said in an interview the district is centering efforts on the high school building after working on the other buildings in the past few years.
“Now, the focus is getting the high school up to date,” he said.
Florida Consulting of Pittsburgh estimated the project, which includes minor repairs to the roofs of the Buffalo and South Buffalo elementary schools, to run nearly $1.2 million.
Lucovich said the project was included in this year’s budget.
The money will come from the district’s capital reserves budget, which has a total of $4 million.
Work includes asbestos removal. A total of square feet to be replaced was unavailable.
Areas of the building where the roof will be replaced includes the auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria and two classroom wings.
The roof was last replaced nearly 40 years ago.
“There’s been patches here and there,” Lucovich said.
The high school was built in the early 1960s.
Bids will be opened March 2 with an expected contract award on March 8.
Lucovich said work could begin this spring if the district has unused snow days at that point.
He said even if work starts after the school year ends, it will be completed before classes resume in the fall.
