Group exchange program links clubs around world

Japanese group will visit district in 2005

Rotary District 7280, of which Butler County is a part, offers a group study exchange program.

The exchange is done between two Rotary clubs in two countries with the intent to give young people a chance to experience other cultures.

Each group consists of a Rotarian group leader with four nonRotarian business and professional men and women ages 25 to 40. The groups travel and participate in vocational activities, fellowship and cultural experiences in the other country for about four weeks.

Housing, transportation, and activities are provided by clubs in the host district.

In May 2003, District 7280 hosted an exchange group from Rotary District 1510 in France. In March 2004, District 7280 sent a group exchange to France.

Participants were Diane Lacey of Grove City, Ruth Benner of Valencia, Carlee Caiazza of New Castle and Risha Johnson of Port Allegany.

The women were hosted by Rotary members in France and visited members of the French team from the year before.

While in France, they went on tours, had dinner parties, attended a Rotary district conference, attended Rotary club meetings, and got the opportunity to experience their vocations, as well as others, in a different country.

As part of this exchange, District 7280 will host a group from Japan from May 17 to June 16.

The Japanese group will then attend the International Rotary Convention and Centennial Celebration June 18 through 22 in Chicago.

In spring 2006, District 7280 will send a group to Japan. Members of the group are nominated by local Rotary clubs.

People who are interested should contact their local Rotary club for information or go to the district Web site on the Internet at www.district7280.org/gsepage.htm
