Bowler gets lost ring back 10 years later

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Lucy Bruring had been dieting when she went bowling at the River City Lanes in a mixed couples league about 10 years ago — which explains how three rings flew off her left hand as she rolled the ball with her right.

"I found my engagement ring and my wedding band, which were soldered together," she said, but she couldn't find the white gold ring with five diamonds that her husband had given her for their 25th wedding anniversary.

"We had everyone looking for it on the floor," Bruring said.

Tim Miles, who was working at the bowling alley that night, said he even disassembled the ball return in search of the ring, with no luck.

The story of the missing ring wasn't forgotten when the bowling alley was sold, and the Walkers, who bought the place, were told to watch for out for it.

While converting the building to a bridal business, a member of the Walker family found the ring beneath boards in Lane 2 — where Bruring was bowling when the ring flew off.

Miles provided Bruring's name, and Jennifer Walker, Kathy's daughter, presented Bruring her ring on Thursday.

"Oh my God, that's it!" Bruring exclaimed. "I can't believe it. ... I thought it was lost forever."
