Deborah Gibbs, a freshman from Waynesburg, receives an award for being chosen Queen of the first Black Arts Festival held at Slippery Rock State College in this Nov. 12, 1970, photograph. Presenting Gibbs with the award were Bill Stringer, center, director of the Black Student Talent Show held the night before and Gary L.Perkins, coordinator of Special Student Programs at the college. Currently, Slippery Rock University is celebrating Black History Month with a variety of programs through the end of the month. On Wednesday night, former Black Panther Bobby Seale spoke to students.
