Coming Down

In 1968, Butler was making room for a new U.S. Post Office building on South Main Street with the demolition of several older buildings, including the old Cubs Hall and former Quaker Cleaners store. The project ultimately removed the Stein Building, right in this photograph, and a former paint store that also housed the Pioneer Trails Scout Council on the left. Last week, two buildings on East Cunningham Street were demolished as part of the city's latest efforts to redefine its future, as part of the proposed Centre City project, which would include a miniconvention center, hotel, retail and housing.
