SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University this week launched a new Web site to provide more accessible information about the university.

This came just after the release of a report from the state Secretary of Education titled "A Test of Leadership: Charting the Future of Higher Education," which calls for universities to have information more readily available, according to a SRU news release.

The university planned to have its Web site operational this fall, long before the report from the secretary of education, Margaret Spelling, and her commission, according to President Robert Smith in the news release.

"Among a number of recommendations in the report, the commission was very clear that colleges and universities must become more transparent about cost, price and student success outcomes, and they willingly share this information with students and families in a user friendly format," Smith said.

In the past, those searching for the data would have to access different university Web pages, according to Smith. The new site has tabs that the user can use to find information such as first year students, transfer students, graduate students, core educational outcomes, costs, financial aid, the classroom environment and campus living.

The new site is a link on the university Web site, sru.edu, by clicking on "SRU Profile: Accountability 2008."
