A-C Valley graduate Jake Mechling, a freshman on the Pitt-Titusville men's basketball team, averaged 11 points and four rebounds per game this season.
Mechling scored 1,188 points during his high school career.
Butler County Community College men's basketball coach Tony Grenek was named Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year and Pioneers freshman forward Matt Lobaugh was named first-team All-WPCC.The Pioneers (17-10) play March 3 in the two-day Region XX Tournament in Frederick, Md.
Phil Bushre and Ryan Eller, two seniors on the Grove City College men's basketball team, were named Presidents' Athletic Conference first-team selections.J.D. Collar was named to the second team and Mike Lukcic received an honorable mention for the Wolverines.
Butler graduate Melanie Buczko, a sophomore on the Bucknell University women's track and field team, placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds at the Patriot League Indoor Championships Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa.Buczko, however, set the school indoor standard in the event (8.89) during a preliminary heat. She also holds the school's indoor pole vault record as well.Buczko's teammate, Slippery Rock High graduate Erin Cranmer-Hart, placed sixth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:04.01.
Abby Moose averaged 24 points, six rebounds and 3.5 steals while leading Grove City College to victories over Thiel (79-67) and Bethany (76-61) last wee kto earn the Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Player of the Week award.
