CENTER TWP — Pittsburgh Steelers rookie linebacker LaMarr Woodley will be signing autographs in Center Court of the Clearview Mall from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 13.

Each autograph requires a ticket. Tickets are available at Guest Services of the mall from now through Oct. 13 or through BTSports Memorabilia by calling 301-689-5069.

Ticket costs are $20 for any mini-helmet or flat item, $25 for larger items.

MEADVILLE— Jenna Rinker of Slippery Rock shot a 79 to win the second annual Meadville Girls Golf Invitational recently at Whispering Pines Golf Course.There were 45 girls participating in the event.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Freddy Sanchez underwent 15 minutes of arthroscopic surgery Friday on his right shoulder.The procedure was needed to correct a minor joint problem that has caused Sanchez shoulder pain over the last 18 months. Until now, he treated the problem with occasional cortisone shots.Sanchez is expected to need six to eight weeks to regain total strength in the shoulder. The operation is not expected to delay or slow his offseason conditioning program.Sanchez, last season's NL batting champion, hasn't played since Tuesday and will sit out the Pirates' season-ending weekend series against St. Louis. He ended the season with a .304 batting average, 11 homers and 81 RBI.

MONTREAL — The Americans were drowning in their fourball matches Friday in the Presidents Cup golf event when Woody Austin became a symbol of their futility by losing his balance and taking a face-first plunge into the lake next to the 14th green at Royal Montreal.Austin redeemed himself by closing with three tough birdies to earn an important halve on a day that the International team otherwise dominated.The International team won four matches to cut the Americans' lead to 7-5 after two days.Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby led the way by handing Tiger Woods his worst loss in team competition, 5 and 4, although there wasn't much Woods and Jim Furyk could do. Singh holed out from a bunker and chipped in for eagle, Appleby made a long eagle putt at No. 12 and they combined to go 11 under through 14 holes.

HOUSTON — The Houston Astros picked Cecil Cooper as their full-time manager Friday.The 57-year-old Cooper received a guaranteed contract through the 2009 season, a month after he was chosen as interim manager to replace the fired Phil Garner.Cooper, a first-time major league manager, is the first black manager in Astros history. He'd been Houston's bench coach since 2005.
