PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to fourth-ranked Valdosta (Ga.) State in the NCAADivision II Sweet 16 Wednesday.
The 29th-ranked SRU squad (22-4) reached the Sweet 16 for just the second time in program history after winning matches in the first two rounds. The team has reached the NCAA tournament seven times since 2000.
BLAIRSVILLE — Kittanning resident Jon Pratkanis, a graduate of Butler High, tied for sixth place with a par 72 at the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association U.S.Open Local Qualifier at Chestnut Ridge Resort Wednesday.Pratkanis tied with three other golfers. The top two finishers — Nathan Sutherland of Wyomissing (68) and Mike Van Sickle of Wexford (70) — advanced to the section qualifier while Nathan Smith of Pittsburgh, Grant Sturgeon of Cave City, Ky., and Bob Ford of Oakmont — were the top three alternates, respectively.
FOX CHAPEL — Meridian resident Grant Foley, a freshman on the Shady Side Academy junior varsity baseball team, batted .333 with 15 hits this season.He also led the team with 15 runs scored, 16 RBIand 13 walks. Foley was 2-0 as a pitcher.
