MEADVILLE — Two Butler County golfers qualified for the Trusted Choice Big I Junior Classic State Tournament July 22 in Fayetteville after their performances on Wednesday.
Marissa DeCola of Center Township fired an 85 to place third in the girls event at the regional qualifier at the Country Club of Meadville Wednesday. Emily Riddle of St. Marys won the event with a stellar 72 over 18 holes.
Jeff Tracy of Slippery Rock placed sixth with a 78 to advance to the state tournament. Michael Claric of Hermitage won the qualifier with a 74.
SLIPPERY ROCK— Jareem Dowling was named the top assistant to first-year head coach Kevin Reynolds on the Slippery Rock University men's basketball staff.He has been the top assistant at Cecil Community College in Maryland the past three seasons. Cecil was 97-6 during that time and won the 2006 JUCOnational championship.Dowling also served as head coach of the U.S. Virgin Islands 18-and-under national team last summer.
CONNELLSVILLE — Slippery Rock's Brett Rinker won the boys 14-year-old division at a Tri-State PGA junior golf event at Pleasant Valley Country Club Thursday with a score of 80.Minto ticketsTickets for the Brian Minto boxing event at Pullman Park Wednesday are sold out.There are a limited amount of standing room only tickets that will be on sale from 4 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Pullman Park box office.The fight card will begin at 8 p.m.. The gates open at 6.
