CLEVELAND — Seneca Valley graduate Zach Jackson was recalled by the Cleveland Indians Wednesday from Class AAA Buffalo and will start tonight's contest against the Baltimore Orioles.

Jackson, who was traded from Milwaukee's system to the Indians in the C.C. Sabathia trade was called up to replace Paul Byrd, who was traded to the Boston Red Sox Tuesday.

"I'm very excited," Jackson said to the Associated Press. "It is unusual to get an opportunity with a new team in the middle of a season

"I was shocked by the trade, but it is an honor to be in a deal with such a big-name player. It's good to be wanted,"Jackson added.

Jackson sported a 3-1 record and a 4.05 ERAin eight appearances with Buffalo, including four starts.

This marks Jackson's second stint in the major leagues this year. He was with Milwaukee in late May and also pitched for the Brewers for a stretch in 2006, when he went 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

WASHINGTON — Major League Baseball is working out technical issues to start instant replay for boundary calls such as home runs, hoping to institute the system later this year.Replay was among the topics discussed on the first day of a two-day owners' meeting but doesn't require a vote because it is not a rule change. Agreements are needed with the players' association and umpires' union.

NEW YORK — Kansas City Royals pitcher Juan Garcia and catcher Juan Fortuna, and Chicago Cubs pitcher Starling Peralta were suspended for 50 games each after testing positive under baseball's minor league drug program. All three tested positive for a metabolite of Boldenone.A total of 26 minor leaguers have received 50-game penalties since July 25.
