GIBSONVILLE, N.C. — North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow was laid to rest a week after her death following a long fight against cancer.

Yow was buried Saturday in her hometown of Gibsonville, about 70 miles west of Raleigh. The Hall of Famer coached at nearby Elon for four years before taking over at N.C. State in 1975 and piling up more than 700 career wins.

Among about 300 mourners was the Wolfpack team and coaching staff.

Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, but led the U.S. Olympic women's team to a gold medal the following season. The disease recurred during the 2004-05 season and had lingered since.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith confirmed Sunday that for the first time in his four-year tenure, the Buckeyes' athletic department is expected to lose money during the fiscal year ending June 30.Smith said he didn't know how much the department would fall short of projections, but revenues are down between $300,000 and $500,000 this year for the winning men's basketball team.To make up the difference, the athletic department will raise ticket prices $1 per game in football and men's basketball across the board, except for students, Smith said.

LAS VEGAS — Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre dominated lightweight champion B.J. Penn at UFC 94 on Saturday night, forcing a doctor to stop the fight before the fifth round in a marquee showdown between two of the sport's top fighters.The 27-year-old St. Pierre, who won a split decision when the two met at UFC 58 in March 2006, was leading heavily on all three scorecards when referee Herb Dean stopped the bout on the advice of ringside doctors.

INNSBRUCK, Austria — Complications forced doctors to stop a procedure to wake Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht from the induced coma he was put in following a World Cup downhill training crash 10 days ago.The 25-year-old reigning super-combined world champion is being given artificial respiration to deal with the complication affecting his lungs, the Innsbruck University hospital said in a statement Sunday.Doctors have tried to deal with the problem by a slight reduction of the coma, but the hospital said his condition "has not improved and Daniel Albrecht was put into a deeper coma again."
