CANONSBURG — Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has practiced for the first time since injuring his groin during a preseason game Thursday in Columbus.
Crosby took part in the Penguins' practice Tuesday and expects to play in the season opener Friday against New York Rangers. The Penguins will raise their Stanley Cup championship banner at Mellon Arena that night.
Crosby skated Saturday and Sunday, but did not play in the Penguins' final exhibition game Sunday in Detroit.
Penguins forward Max Talbot skated for the first time since having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He is expected to be sidelined until midseason.

STATE COLLEGE— Penn State linebacker Sean Lee said his sprained left knee is feeling better but he hasn't returned to the practice field.Lee said Tuesday he is rehabbing every day, and that he's just started jogging again.It's up to the team doctor to determine whether Lee will be ready for the No. 15 Nittany Lions' game Saturday at Illinois.The team captain was hurt during a Sept. 19 win against Temple. Lee came out in uniform for last weekend's loss to Iowa wearing a black knee brace but never entered the game.
