YPSILANTI, Mich. — Brittney Faust, a senior at Knoch High, earned All-America honors last weekend at the U.S. Girls Wrestling Association Tournament.
Faust went 3-1 in the 120-pound division to reach the championship round for the second time in two weeks, but she lost again to Tanya Kusse of Webster, N.Y., this time in a 2-0 decision on a reversal in the final 30 seconds.
Faust has earned All-America recognition in four of her last five national tournaments and will compete in either the Body Bar Nationals in Florida or the Senior Nationals in Cleveland within the next month in preparation for the USA Freestyle event in Fargo, N.D., in July.
WILKES-BARRE — Kaleb Kamerer, a third-grader at Moraine Elementary, finished second in the 8-and-under, 110-pound division at the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Championships March 26 and 27.Kamerer, who wrestles with the Slippery Rock Little Rocks, had captured the Area 7 finals March 14 to qualify for the state finals.He is coached by Vito Pilosi.
EDINBORO — Butler graduate Jenna Geibel belted a solo home run to lead the Slippery Rock University softball team to a 2-1 victory over Edinboro Monday, then fell 10-2 to the host Scots in the nightcap.Shardea Croes' RBI single gave The Rock (16-13, 4-4) a 2-0 lead in the first game while Shaylee Ianno pitched four innings to earn the win.In Game 2, Knoch graduate Kristen Brant had a two-run homer to account for SRU's runs.
