SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team, in conjunction with the Slippery Rock Area Parks & Recreation Department and the Slippery Area School District, helped to raise $2,000 for Legacy for Life with a 5K race last weekend.

More than 100 runners participated in the event at Slippery Rock Community Park.

Former SRU men's soccer player and current graduate assistant Patrick Cormac won the overall race.

Legacy for Life is a project of the Butler Visiting Nurses Association that will result in the opening of an inpatient hospice facility on Benbrook Drive in Butler this spring.

FARMINGTON — Grove City's Ryan Prokay shot a 75-72-147 to win the Plantations Junior Golf Tour event last weekend on the Mystic Rock course at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Laura Handy, the Slippery Rock University No. 1 women's tennis singles player, was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Atlantic Regional Senior Player of the Year.Handy is 18-7 in singles this season, 20-8 in doubles. She is 164-57 in her career and has the third highest win total in the program's history.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse players Brianne Dishong and Amy Halls have earned All-PSAC West honors.Dishong made the first team on defense, Halls made the second team at attack.Dishong led the Rock defense with 44 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers. Halls led the team with 51 goals and 11 assists.

GROVE CITY — Grove City College selected senior multisport athletes Andrew DiDonato and Michelle Peck as its Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.DiDonato totaled five letters at Grove City, including four in football. He started all 40 games in his career at quarterback and led the PAC in 2009 with 2,994 yards of total offense and 240 completions. He also played basketball.Peck earned seven letters while competing in soccer and golf. She led GCC with 10 goals and 24 points. She earned All-PAC second-team honors in golf in 2009.
