BUTLER TWP — Butler wrestler Christian Sequete, 13, took fourth place recently in the Border Wars Viper Pit Tournament in Massillon, Ohio, recently.
He competed at 160 pounds in the age 13-15 division and qualified for the Ohio Tournament of Champions. There were state champions from all over the country among the tournament field.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior women's tennis player Nikolina Grbac has been named first team All-PSAC West.Grbac was 36-16 overall this season, going 20-5 as SRU's No. 1 singles player and teaming with Sarah Joumond to go 16-11 at No. 1 doubnles.Grbac is a transfer from the University of New Mexico, where she played her first three collegiate seasons.
ASHLAND, Ohio — Butler graduate Katelyn Wetzel won the 100-meter dash in 12.29 seconds and led Slippery Rock University's 4x100 meter relay team to a win Saturday at the Ashland Alumni Open.The relay won in 47.24 seconds, faster than any team in the PSAC this year. SRU recorded 24 PSAC qualifying marks Saturday.The PSAC Championships begin Thursday morning and run through Saturday at Shippensburg University.
MIAMI — Jack Ramsay, a Hall of Fame coach who led the Portland Trail Blazers to the 1977 NBA championship before he became one of the NBA’s most respected broadcasters, died following a long battle with cancer. He was 89.Ramsay’s death was announced by ESPN, his employer for many years.Ramsay coached in the NBA for parts of 21 seasons before embarking on a second career as an NBA analyst. He was diagnosed with melanoma in 2004 and later battled growths and tumors that spread to his legs, lungs and brain, then later fought prostate cancer and most recently a marrow syndrome.
