Spirit of Christmas parade drew more than 50,000 in 1987

More than 50,000 people are estimated to have lined the sidewalks of Butler to watch the annual Spirit of Christmas parade on Nov. 27, 1987.
Prospector’s 4-H Club was the big winner in the float competition, taking the win in the best theme and best overall float categories for the nonprofit division.
In the commercial division, Nationwide took top honors with its float that was made to look like a little girl’s bedroom.
