Jeer:

Before adjourning, the Pennsylvania General Assembly wrestled with how to provide additional money to struggling public transit agencies in the commonwealth. One bad idea floated was diverting some money currently targeted for road repairs and construction to the transit agencies in question.

A memo issued by Transportation Secretary Allen Biehler on Monday asked Department of Transportation district executives to draw up a list of projects that could be delayed or scrapped to provide $90 million to public transit.

If state lawmakers want to help the transit systems, it shouldn't be at the expense of the roads. It would seem that some of the money lawmakers had wanted to use for a raise for themselves, judges and administration officials could be better used on the transit front.
