Cheer:

The Seneca Valley School District is right in taking a proactive stance on traffic safety, as shown by a town meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the high school auditorium.

The meeting is the product of concern over a number of crashes during the past two months involving students traveling to and from the secondary campus. While there have been no fatalities, school officials are right in fearing the worst, if the situation is not properly addressed.

According to Linda Andreassi, district communications director, speeding, carelessness and driving inexperience were the three main factors in the accidents.

Those who will take the time to participate in the meeting as a means of achieving the greatest positive impact also merit praise. They include police from Jackson, Lancaster and Cranberry townships; the state police; Harmony Volunteer Fire Department; and Harmony Emergency Medical Services.

Part of the meeting will involve presentation of accident statistics, display of accident-scene photographs and a question-and-answer session.

It is to be hoped that the meeting results in the level of attention and concern that it deserves.
