Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township, will be the site of a free kayaking program called “Explore Offshore” from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday; meet at the McDanel's Launch on the North Shore. Take a kayak, or reserve one of the park's kayaks for free. Participants who use park kayaks must be at least age 12. An adult must accompany participants who are under 18. To reserve a park kayak call the Moraine office at 724-368-8811. A fish for free day is planned for Labor Day. Participants can legally fish without license. All other fishing regulations still apply. Fishing poles and tackle can be borrowed for free from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Moraine's South Shore office. Call 724-368-8811.
Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011 to confirm programs.
<B>McConnells Mill State Park</B> in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, has the gristmill open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays with interpretive tours offered at 1 and 3 p.m. each day. The mill also will be open from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Labor Day. Call 724-368-3612 to confirm programs.<B>Star parties</B> sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, will start at about 7:55 p.m. Friday and Saturday, weather permitting, at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park, Frazer Township, Allegheny County. Admission is free, though donations are accepted for the costs of operation. Call 724-224-2510 for information.
