The Maridon Museum is hosting a free Japanese film series.

The series will include:

• “Tokyo Story,” Sept. 9, presented by William Covey. This 1953 film tells the story of a couple who travels to Tokyo to visit their grown children. The film contrasts the behavior of their biological children, who are too busy to pay them much attention, and their daughter-in-law, who treats them with kindness.

• “Still Walking,” Sept. 30, presented by William Covey. A family is briefly reunited to commemorate the death of the eldest son, who drowned 15 years prior. They share nostalgia, humor, sadness and tension.

• “Love and Honor,” Oct. 11, presented by Armand Policicchio. A low-ranking samurai has a happy and stable life with his loving wife. However, all this comes crashing down when he, as the lord’s food taster, eats poisoned shellfish and becomes blind.

• “Departures,” Nov. 3, presented by Kenneth Harris. An out-of-work cellist accepts a job as an undertaker. He gradually gains a greater appreciation for life. His wife and friends despise his new line of work, but he takes pride in helping to ensure that the dead receive a proper send-off.
