A Night of ... Beethoven
The Butler County Symphony Orchestra opens its 63rd season at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.
The theme for the season is ”A Night Of ...”, and this concert is focused on “A Night of Beethoven.”
The featured selection is Beethoven's “Symphony No. 8” in F. Other selections include “Egmont Overture” and “Romance for Violin and Orchestra,” featuring the new concertmaster, Elisa Wicks.
Wicks is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music. She was a member of the Suzuki faculty at the Cleveland Music School Settlement, where she taught lessons and group classes. She also became the concertmaster of the Case Baroque Orchestra.
In 2004, Wicks relocated to Butler, where she continues as an active performer and teacher.
The 2011-12 season will be Wicks' sixth with the orchestra, her first as concertmaster and will feature her solo performance debut.
To add color to the Oct. 8 concert, Phillip Ball, a veteran in area theatrical productions, will portray Beethoven. He will comment on the pieces being performed.
The guest conductor will be Thomas Hong, a candidate for the open position of music director and conductor of the orchestra. He is one of three guest conductors for the season.Hong is in his third year as assistant conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony and conducts numerous classical, community, education and pops concerts. Most recently, he made his Heinz Hall classical debut with a program that included Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Mahler.Reserved seats for this concert are available at the symphony office, 259 S.
