A feathered crew member demonstrates sailing, bell ringing and searching for treasure in the Parrots of Caribbean show that begins Saturday at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH — Parrots of the Caribbean opens Saturday at the National Aviary’s Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone Theater.

Featuring a parrot-sized pirate ship and a feisty flock of parrots and macaws, a cantankerous flamingo and two ravens, Parrots of the Caribbean takes visitors on a voyage from the Caribbean to Pittsburgh with a parrot crew demonstrating all the activities required to sail the seven seas, from raising the ship’s anchor to hunting for treasure and raising the Jolly Roger.

In addition to the opening of this new show, the aviary’s rooftop Sky Deck theater returns for the season beginning Saturday, featuring birds of prey in free-flight demonstrations above the aviary.

Sky Deck is home to Lanner falcons, black kites and eagles demonstrating aerial acrobatics.

Parrots of the Caribbean and the Sky Deck begin daily shows Saturday and continue through Sept. 2.

Theater shows and encounter programs require a separate ticket and are not included in general admission.
