A free outdoor discovery series, hosted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, takes place Thursday nights at Alameda Park. The programs begin at 7 p.m. in the Carousel Shelter. Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, plans summer programs for children. Concurrent sessions are planned at Moraine State Park. McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, hosts Art in the Park from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday and July 15 and 29, and Aug. 19. The historic gristmill is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October. Tours of the mill, which last about 45 minutes, are available at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
