A free outdoor discovery series, hosted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, takes place Thursday nights at Alameda Park. The programs begin at 7 p.m. in the Carousel Shelter. Scheduled tonight is “All About Bees.” A program on wilderness survival is planned for July 5. Call 724-284-5383.

Moraine State Park will be the site of a dog hike from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Meet at the Pleasant Valley picnic area on the South Shore. Call 724-368-8811 for details.

Moraine Preservation Fund will conduct summer cruises on its Nautical Nature pontoon boat from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 28. There also are Wednesday Night pizza cruises that begin at 5 p.m. Fees are involved. Call 724-368-9185 or 724-368-8811.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, plans summer programs for children. Concurrent sessions are planned at Moraine State Park. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011.

McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, hosts Art in the Park from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday and July 15 and 29, and Aug. 19. The historic gristmill is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October. Tours of the mill, which last about 45 minutes, are available at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
