A free outdoor discovery series, hosted by Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, takes place Thursday nights at Alameda Park. The programs begin at 7 p.m. in the park's Carousel Shelter. Scheduled tonight is “Let There Be Slime,” about amphibians and reptiles. The program for July 26 is “That Guy with the Birds.” Call 724-284-5383.
Moraine State Park will be the site of a Birds and Brew kayaking event from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Call 724-368-3612 to register.
Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, has summer programs for children. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011.
Moraine Preservation Fund will conduct summer cruises on its Nautical Nature pontoon boat from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 28. There also are Wednesday night pizza cruises that begin at 5 p.m. Fees are involved. Call 724-368-9185 or 724-368-8811.
McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, will be the site of “A Taste of History: Dutch Oven Cooking” from noon to 4 p.m. in the gristmill courtyard. Historic bread baking class will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28. Register by calling 724-368-8811.
