A free outdoor discovery series, hosted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, presents a program on backyard birds of prey in Pennsylvania at 7 p.m. today in the Carousel Shelter at Alameda Park. Call 724-284-5383.

Moraine State Park will host free kayak programs, specifically a full moon paddle from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. today, a silver paddle from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday as well as Aug. 21, and a bat paddle from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Call 724-368-3612 to register.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, hosts a guided, 90-minute prairie bloom walk at 2 p.m. Sunday. It begins in the prairie parking area. Call 724-794-6011 to confirm programs. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Moraine Preservation Fund will conduct summer cruises on its Nautical Nature pontoon boat from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 28. There also are Wednesday night pizza cruises that begin at 5 p.m. Fees are involved. Call 724-368-9185 or 724-368-8811.

McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, hosts Art in the Park from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 19. A Taste of History: Dutch Oven Cooking is planned for noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 19 and Sept. 16 in the gristmill courtyard. A historic bread baking class will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 25 and Sept. 22. Register by calling 724-368-8811. The gristmill is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October. Admission is free.
