Honoring The Fallen

George Gavula, a member of Michael Kosar Post 778 and representing World War II veterans, places a wreath at the base of the Gen. Richard Butler statue in Diamond Park in Butler on May 30, 1977, for Memorial Day. Veterans who fought in past wars placed wreaths to memorialize servicemen who died. Thousands of people lined Main Street for the ceremony and a parade. This year, Butler's Memorial Day parade will be at 10:40 a.m. Monday on Main Street. It will begin at the Butler County Courthouse, head north on Main Street and end with a brief ceremony at North Cemetery. It is sponsored by Butler County Veterans Services.
