No. 2 North Catholic returns to WPIAL girls volleyball championship game after beating Shaler
North Catholic will play for its fifth WPIAL girls volleyball championship Saturday.
The No. 2 Trojanettes erased a first-set loss to beat No. 3 Shaler 3-1 (set scores: 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21) on Wednesday at Fox Chapel High School in the WPIAL Class 5A semifinals.
Sophomore hitter Isabel Kurpeikis had nine aces in the win, and head coach Amanda Fetter said junior middle hitter Kaylee Garr, senior middle Lauren Reitz and senior hitter Jocelyn Roofner all provided “great play.”
The final will be held 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Peters Township’s AHN Arena. The Trojans will face top seed Peters Township, which swept Penn-Trafford 3-0. Both finalists have qualified for the PIAA tournament, which begins next week.
North last won a district title in 2022, the last of three straight championships, and was last in the final in 2024.
